Study Points Out Barriers to Success of Women Advisors
A Carson Group survey of 335 financial advice professionals found a majority of respondents agreed that female advisors face more obstacles than their male peers. About 73% said women have to balance their professional role with caregiving responsibilities, while 70% cited problems finding a firm that first them culturally. Moreover, 57% had difficulty finding a mentor, and 34% called prospecting for new clients challenging. “Perhaps more concerning is that 47% of those who cited 'other' in their write-in responses to the question of challenges indicated that gender-based discrimination in the workplace is still a significant barrier for success,” said Julie Ragatz, co-author of a report based on the poll. “We focus much of our energy on the recruitment of women, which is important too. But none of these barriers keep women out of the industry. They keep them from staying.”
