SEC’s Enforcement Chief Resigns

Margaret A. Ryan, the enforcement chief at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has resigned after just six months in the role. The SEC did not provide a reason for her departure. Her exit comes amid a broader shift under Chairman Paul S. Atkins toward a more business-friendly approach, including scaling back enforcement actions, particularly in cryptocurrency cases. The SEC said that it expected to announce Ryan’s successor in the coming weeks, and that Sam Waldon, who was serving as a deputy enforcement chief, will be the acting director in the meantime.
