SEC Proposes Advertising, Solicitation Rule Changes

The SEC proposed changes to rules governing investment advisor advertisements and compensation for solicitations. The proposal, designed to adapt with changing technology, would allow testimonials, endorsements, and third party ratings under certain conditions. The proposal also lays out processes for internal review of advertisements and updates a 1979 regulation governing solicitation to go beyond the only form of compensation contemplated in the original rule: cash.
