SEC, CFTC Signal End to Turf Battle

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) have signed a new memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation and reducing long-standing regulatory conflicts. The agreement formalizes information sharing, policy consultation and coordinated enforcement in areas where securities and derivatives oversight overlap. Officials say the move will improve regulatory efficiency, provide clearer guidance for market participants and support financial innovation, as digital assets and new financial technologies blur traditional jurisdictional boundaries. While the pact does not change either agency’s legal authority, it establishes closer collaboration on rulemaking, data sharing and market surveillance.
