Phishing Scam Is Using Names of FINRA Execs

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) is warning member firms against opening phishing messages claiming to be from its own executives. FINRA said that it learned of "an ongoing phishing campaign" using the e-mail addresses "steve.r@data-finra.org," purportedly from "Steve Randich, the Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer," and "robert.c@data-finra.org," supposedly from "Robert L.D. Colby, the Chief Legal Officer." In each case, the email claims that the "FINRA regulatory department has made multiple attempts to contact you to deliver a notice that requires your attention," according to a recent FINRA alert. The emails then invite recipients to open a PDF. "FINRA reminds firms to verify the legitimacy of any suspicious email prior to responding to it, opening any attachments or clicking on any embedded links," the alert said.
