M&T Upgrades as Banks Seek Closer Ties to Corporate Clients

M&T Bank is using embedded banking technology to strengthen relationships with corporate customers by integrating financial services directly into the software businesses already use. The bank is among the first users of a new platform from FIS that allows banks to provide services through application programming interfaces, software development kits, widgets and white-label applications while retaining regulatory control. FIS is initially testing the platform with M&T and two other banks, with a broader rollout, including payments, planned for the fourth quarter. The move reflects rapid growth in embedded finance, with global embedded payments expected to expand significantly through 2028. Other banks, including Fifth Third and Key, are also investing in embedded payments.
