Dallas Now Has Higher Share of Finance Sector Jobs Than NYC

Dallas-Fort Worth now has the highest share of financial-sector jobs among major U.S. metropolitan areas, surpassing New York City. Financial activities, including finance, insurance and real estate, represented 10.1% of Dallas-area employment in June, according to data from the Dallas Federal Reserve, compared with 9.9% in New York. The sector has grown more than 23% in Dallas since February 2020, far outpacing New York’s 6% growth, while other financial centers such as Chicago, Boston and San Francisco have lost jobs. Dallas employed about 317,000 financial-sector workers in June. The boom has coincided with an influx of corporate headquarters and major financial firms establishing regional operations.
