Community Bankers Say Regulations No Longer Such a Big Concern

Community bankers are less worried about regulation this year, according to a new survey by the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS). Only 28.4% of respondents called regulation an “extremely important” risk, down from 44.1% in 2024. Bankers credited the Trump administration’s deregulatory agenda, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s pause on new small-business reporting rules. Compliance costs remain high but optimism has grown under expectations of continued relief.
