Business Owners Want To Sell but Not Retire

A new Raymond James survey finds that while most U.S. business owners plan to sell or transition their businesses within the next decade, few intend to retire. About 88% expect to transition some or all of their ownership within 10 years, yet only 20% plan to stop working. Instead, a third expect to remain involved in their current business and 30% plan to invest in or acquire another company. Business wealth is significant, with most owners holding a large share of net worth in their companies. Most have transition plans and expect to seek additional capital for growth, which financial advisors could prove helpful with.
