America’s Oldest Bank Is Spending Billions on Tech

BNY is investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI), spending $3.8 billion on technology in 2025, while deploying 134 “digital employees” that perform repetitive tasks around the clock. Executives say AI is being used to unlock capacity and boost productivity rather than cut jobs. The bank has also focused on upskilling staff through its AI Hub, a proprietary platform called Eliza and mandatory training and bootcamps for employees.
