Americans Remain Hazy on Social Security Benefit Details

A new Allianz Life study finds that most Americans remain unclear about Social Security, with 55% admitting they know little about how it works or fits into retirement planning. Only 39% have a strategy for when and how to claim benefits, though 77% of Baby Boomers have some plan compared to just 30% of Gen X and 23% of Millennials. Many hold misconceptions — over half mistakenly believe full benefits start at age 65, rather than between 66 and 67. Despite this, 53% expect Social Security to be a major income source.
