SEC Lays Out Policing Plans After Departure of Enforcement Head

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will prioritize “quality over quantity” in enforcement cases following leadership changes, according to acting enforcement director Sam Waldon. He acknowledged a decline in enforcement actions and penalties under the current administration but said the agency will focus on major investor harms such as insider trading, accounting fraud, market manipulation and breach of fiduciary duty by investment advisors. The approach aligns with that of former enforcement chief Margaret Ryan, who recently resigned.
