Young Investor Demand for Alternative Assets Is Reshaping Wall Street's Playbook

Affluent Millennials and Gen Z investors are moving their money into alternative assets, such as pre-IPO unicorns, real estate, crypto and collectibles, due to skepticism about traditional markets. The financial industry is adapting to this trend, with firms like Forge Global Holdings Inc. and Bank of America Corp. offering alternative investment products and lowering minimum investment thresholds. “Some advisors may have just used the 60/40 portfolio over time and haven’t really felt the need to offer something in the way of alternatives,” said Mark Steffen, global alternative investment strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute. “But I think that’s probably changing.”
