Vanguard Hires Nuveen’s Stout To Head Private Markets Strategy

Vanguard Group has hired Bill Stout, formerly of Nuveen, to lead its private markets strategy, signaling CEO Salim Ramji’s intent to expand in higher-margin asset classes. Vanguard, known for pioneering low-cost index funds, currently has limited exposure to private equity and private credit, areas where competitors like BlackRock and State Street are increasing focus. Earlier this year, Vanguard partnered with Blackstone and Wellington Management to offer mixed public and private market funds for retail clients. President and CIO Greg Davis said the firm is exploring additional private asset products and aims to continue driving down fees, managing roughly $10 trillion in assets globally.
