Trump Administration Seeks Pause in DOL Fiduciary Rule Appeals

The Trump administration has filed a motion to pause its appeals of court rulings that suspended the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) fiduciary rule last year. Two federal courts granted the stays of the rule last July while they consider industry challenges to overturn the rule. The rule toughens fiduciary standards and extends fiduciary responsibility to those selling annuities and individual retirement accounts to rollover investors. It would also make one-time advice a fiduciary transaction. The government’s latest motion asked the courts to hold the DOL appeals filed by the previous administration “in abeyance” to give the agency's new leadership time to consider the legal challenges.
