Social Security Worries Haunt Americans Planning for Retirement, Transamerica Says

A new report from the Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies shows that despite concerns about the future of Social Security, most Americans still plan to depend on it in retirement. Sixty-nine percent expect to rely on the program, with 32% citing it as their primary income source. Yet, 70% of non-retirees worry benefits may not be there when they retire. Survey respondents supported reforms such as raising payroll taxes or benefit adjustments to preserve the program. Women, facing lower savings and greater reliance on Social Security than men, are especially vulnerable, underscoring calls for urgent policy action.
