SEC’s Atkins Considering Roundtable on Alternatives in 401(k)s

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins said the agency may host a roundtable to gather input on President Donald Trump’s August executive order expanding access to alternative investments in 401(k) plans. Speaking at an industry event, Atkins said the SEC and U.S. Labor Department are coordinating efforts to revise regulations and ensure appropriate investor protections. He emphasized the need for clear guidelines while noting that private markets are essential to balanced portfolios. Atkins also dismissed claims that private credit poses systemic risks and called for revisiting the SEC’s accredited investor definition.
