SEC Approves Climate Rule

Corporations will have to share key details about their role in driving climate change and the threat that warming poses to their operations under a newly approved rule from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The rule, though watered down from the original proposal, still represents one of the most far-reaching measures by the federal government to push companies toward climate accountability at a time when many are taking neutral stances or facing accusations from investors that they are exaggerating their climate improvement achievements. The rule was one of the most highly anticipated in the SEC’s history, generating some 24,000 comments.
