Rollovers May Reach $1.1 Trillion by 2030: LIMRA
by: Edward Rueda
U.S. retail retirement plan rollovers are projected to reach $1.15 trillion by 2030, a 34% increase from $855 billion in 2025 and nearly double 2020 levels, according to LIMRA. Average rollover amounts for individuals aged 50–74 have risen from $101,400 in 2007 to $220,000. Growth is driven by higher retirement plan participation, job changes affecting 60–70 million workers annually and record retirements, with 11,400 Americans turning 65 daily in 2025. LIMRA found 67% of workers decide on rollovers before leaving jobs, citing control (47%), returns (42%) and consolidation (38%), with reputation (73%) as the top factor in IRA provider selection.
