Retirement Anxiety Deepens Even as Americans Project Financial Confidence

Two new studies from Ameriprise Financial and Gallup show a growing mismatch between Americans’ day-to-day financial confidence and their long-term retirement worries. While 85% of single, divorced and widowed respondents say they feel confident managing finances independently, the same share express anxiety about aging alone and handling future healthcare and financial decisions without support, Ameriprise found. The firm said its findings suggest many financially independent adults are seeking guidance as they prepare for longer life expectancies and evolving retirement realities. Gallup data, meanwhile, show that 69% of non-retirees are worried about not having enough money for retirement, matching recent highs, with concern especially strong among lower-income households.
