IRS Extends Secure 2.0 Act Amendment Deadline for IRAs
by: Melanie Waddell
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has extended the deadline to amend IRA, SEP and SIMPLE IRA documents to Dec. 31, 2027, giving custodians more time to incorporate changes from Secure, Secure 2.0, the CARES Act and other tax laws. Updates include higher required minimum distribution (RMD) ages, waived RMDs for certain beneficiaries, expanded charitable distribution reporting and higher catch-up contributions. Advisors are urged to ensure plans are administered correctly while monitoring forthcoming IRS model language, as further deadline extensions remain possible.
