Hester Peirce Tapped for Second Term as SEC Commissioner

Hester Peirce has been nominated to another term as an SEC commissioner. Her current term expired Friday, though commissioners can remain in their seats up to 18 months after a term's expiration, or until a replacement is confirmed. If confirmed by the Senate, her term would stretch until June 2025. A big proponent of digital currencies, Peirce has garnered the nickname "crypto mom." In a February speech now posted on the SEC's website, she proposed introducing a three-year safe harbor for cryptocurrency firms interested in offering tokens so they "could facilitate participation in and the development of a functional or decentralized network, exempted from the registration provisions of the federal securities laws," so long certain conditions are met.
