Four Myths Advisors Hold About Women Investors

Vanguard’s Women & Wealth Study challenges common assumptions about women investors, finding that they are confident, careful decision-makers who increasingly control household finances. The survey found 76% of women feel confident making financial decisions, while working with an advisor nearly triples the likelihood that they consider their financial knowledge advanced. Rather than delaying decisions because of fear, more than two-thirds carefully evaluate options before committing, and 97% stick with plans agreed upon with advisors. Women prioritize trustworthiness, financial expertise, education and collaboration over empathy, with clear recommendations valued more than emotional reassurance. Highly confident women also remain engaged in financial planning and can be strong sources of referrals. However, they are more likely to leave advisors who fail to deliver strong performance, communication or a sense of partnership.
