Financial Advisors Drove 1 out of 5 Rollovers in 2025

Financial advisors influenced only about 22% of the record $1 trillion in retirement account rollovers in 2025, according to new research from Hearts & Wallets, highlighting advisors’ limited role in a major area of asset movement. Most consumers initiated rollovers on their own, often to simplify finances, consolidate for better planning or seek improved service. While advisor-influenced rollovers rose from 17% in 2024, the study points to significant untapped opportunity as more households consider moving assets in 2026. The data also shows employers and 401(k) record keepers gaining ground in retaining rollover assets, especially among late-career workers.
