Call for Proposals: Draw Inspiration From 2023 Sessions
by: BISA Staff
At the BISA 2023 Annual Convention, industry leaders from around the country traveled to Miami, Florida for an exceptional opportunity to network with peers within the banking, insurance and securities realm. It’s hard to believe, but BISA is already looking ahead to the 2024 annual convention in Hollywood, Florida, and the deadline to submit your session proposal is July 28.
With industry experts leading sessions on topics from DE&I to retirement planning, 2023’s flagship event was a meaningful experience for conference attendees. As you develop your session proposal for next year, here is a refresher of some of our favorite 2023 sessions:
Joe Coughlin kicked off the final session at the BISA Annual Convention, moderated by Caryl Falvey, with insight into client expectations when it comes to planning their future. It’s no secret that longevity planning comes with challenges, but according to Joe, the conversations are worth every penny.
Four BISA members discussed challenges they’ve experienced in their careers, simply because they were different from those around them. After moderator Brett Carmichael set the stage, he was joined by Gina Riepel, Wallace Harris and Rona Guymon, who shared their stories and efforts to fight for change in the workplace and beyond.
Three BISA members took to the stage for a keynote session titled “Dueling Economists,” although they define themselves as “investment strategists” instead of economists. In the months since their session, the U.S. economy has already shifted, but many of their reflections remain relevant as our industry grapples with the current landscape. We share a few thoughts from Gene Goldman of Cetera, Tim Pierotti of WealthVest and Marc Zabicki of LPL, and provide a round-up of recent articles for further reading.
Tim Kehrer of the Kehrer Group and Larry Cohen of RFI Global led a session showcasing MacroMonitor research that quantifies what investors of different generations want.
Jane-ellen Porter opened the 2023 BISA Women’s Networking Breakfast and set the scene for an inspiring gathering. Networking, community and celebration are the hallmarks of this annual event, which has grown in attendance and popularity since the inaugural brunch hosted by Jacinda Norvell and LeAnn Rummel. From that initial group of 30 women to this year’s record-setting 170 attendees, it’s become a highly sought-after event.
As our society heads further into 2023, the importance of moving beyond bias and into belonging is clearer than ever. In the DE&I Peer Group Session, speakers Decker Moss and Joelle Guymon took a deep dive into diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace. In order to properly achieve a goal of understanding DE&I practices, you have to, as Joelle said, “Get comfortable being uncomfortable. That’s where the growth happens.”
