Americans Ignoring Advisors in Education Saving Decisions

In an annual survey, Edward Jones spoke with 2,200 adults and found that 78% do not typically consult a financial advisor before making decisions about education savings. That high number suggests financial advisors have not been doing as much as they can on this issue. “It’s a miss on the financial advisors’ part not to lead that conversation and to be proactive knowing what a family’s goals are, especially vis-à-vis education savings,” said financial advisor Andy Esser. One in five respondents, however, said that working with a financial advisor would help them feel better about covering the costs of future education expenses.
