Wall Street Regulators Jointly Propose To Trim Private Fund Reporting Rules

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission have jointly proposed scaling back rules requiring detailed disclosures from private funds. The changes would raise reporting thresholds, reducing the number of firms required to report while still covering about 90% of industry assets. Supporters, such as the Alternative Investment Management Association, say the revisions strike a balance between oversight and reducing regulatory burden. Critics, including Better Markets, argue the rollback could increase financial system risks by reducing transparency. The proposal will undergo a 60-day public comment period before a final decision is made.
