Vanguard Joins the ‘Private Markets’ Craze

Vanguard, like some of its peers, is foraying into the world of private markets — a departure from its traditional low-cost investment option core. A new fund it is developing with Blackstone and Wellington Management will offer a mix of public and private assets. State Street joined with Blackstone rival Apollo Global Management to create a 401(k) target-date fund with approximately 10% exposure to private markets. BlackRock is aiming to launch something similar next year.
