U.S. Regulators Delay New Private Fund Reporting Rules

U.S. regulators extended a deadline for new data reporting requirements for investment advisors to private funds a day before they were due to take effect. The rules, adopted in February 2024, will require advisors to disclose more information to regulators in a bid to boost the government's ability to spot risks from private markets that have grown in size in recent years. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission both voted for the extension, marking the second time the regulators decided to push back the deadline after previously postponing it this January. Private funds have urged the SEC to review this rule, arguing that the new requirements are unnecessary and costly. The firms now have until Oct. 1 to comply.
