US Life Insurers Report Solid Q2 Results Amid Market Stability

U.S. life insurers reported steady second quarter operating profitability, bolstered by stable equity markets, resilient disability margins and strong risk-transfer strategies, Moody’s reported. Operating earnings rose 5% quarter-over-quarter but slipped 3% year-on-year. Life sales grew 8.6% sequentially and 7.2% annually, while annuity sales rose 5% from Q1 but declined 5.3% year-on-year. Registered index-linked annuities remained strong, and alternative investment performance improved. Corebridge’s reinsurance deal with Venerable highlighted ongoing capital efficiency moves, including Bermuda structures. Partnerships with asset managers, such as Voya-Blue Owl and Manulife-Comvest, are expanding insurers’ private credit reach. Moody’s expects further profitability gains in the second half.
