Bank of New York Mellon (BNY) now employs over 100 “digital employees” — AI systems with email addresses, logins and performance reviews — handling tasks from payments to code repair. The bank calls its AI strategy a “superpower,” aiming to boost productivity without cutting human staff. CEO Robin Vince said BNY views AI as an enhancement, not a job threat. Its digital employees combine multiple AI agents that can operate like humans within company systems. Through its AI platform Eliza, BNY integrates large language models, and nearly all staff are trained to use AI tools as part of daily operations.
