The Cities Where FA Pay Is Rising (and Falling)

The median income for a financial advisor (FA) in 2023 was about $99,580, according to data from Bureau of Labor Statistics, up 4% from 2022. A new SmartAsset study based on that data shows that pay trends varied widely, based on location. Median advisor pay was the highest in the New York City metropolitan area at $167,600, more than four times higher than the $37,370 salary in the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area of southern Texas. The study noted, however, that advisor pay was on the upswing in many smaller metropolitan areas.
