Senators Ask SEC Not To Abandon New Investigative Database

Four U.S. senators have written to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins, asking him to refrain from further disabling the Consolidated Audit Trail (CAT), or shutting it down altogether. In February, the SEC decided to stop including trader identifying data with transactions tracked by CAT. This decision, “will significantly impair the agency’s ability to understand market events and pursue bad actors, thereby jeopardizing the integrity of our markets,” wrote the lawmakers.
