SEC Proposes Rules on Investment Advisor Crypto Asset Custody

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed new rules governing how investment advisors and funds custody crypto assets under federal securities laws. SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the proposal would establish a clearer regulatory framework and provide investment advisors and funds with a compliant way to safeguard crypto assets. The agency said the rules are intended to address custody requirements for digital assets within the existing securities-law framework.
