SEC Proposes New Cybersecurity Reporting Requirements

The SEC has proposed changing its rules to require greater disclosure from public companies of cybersecurity risks, amid a heightened threat of cyberattacks by Russia. Under the proposed rules, public companies would be required to report “material” cybersecurity incidents on the 8-K form within four business days. SEC Chair Gary Gensler said, “I think companies and investors alike would benefit if this information were required in a consistent, comparable and decision-useful manner.”
