SEC Drops Emphasis on Crypto Sector Exams for 2026

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has removed its previous emphasis on examining crypto-related activities from its 2026 oversight priorities. Instead, the SEC’s Division of Examinations will focus on fiduciary duty, conduct standards, asset custody and new customer data privacy requirements. SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the updated priorities aim to support constructive dialogue with firms rather than create a “gotcha” regulatory environment.
