SEC Commissioner Peirce To Leave Agency

Hester Peirce will leave the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Oct. 2 after serving beyond the June 2025 expiration of her second five-year term as a commissioner. She was first appointed in 2018 and became the SEC’s longest-serving current commissioner. Peirce has been closely associated with cryptocurrency policy and previously led the agency’s crypto task force, advocating clearer rules and criticizing regulation through enforcement. Her departure comes as the SEC develops new approaches to crypto, including rules for tokenized stocks and proposed exemptions for crypto fundraising. The White House has not yet announced a successor.
