SEC, CFTC Pledge To Join Forces on Crypto Regulation

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) are joining forces to coordinate oversight of the crypto industry, aiming to reduce regulatory overlap and provide clearer rules for markets. The CFTC will participate in the SEC’s Project Crypto initiative, a step that could lead to a formal agreement between the agencies and the development of a shared crypto asset taxonomy. Agency leaders said the collaboration marks a shift away from enforcement-heavy regulation toward harmonized, durable frameworks, while emphasizing that congressional action — particularly a market structure bill — is essential to lock in long-term clarity for investors and crypto firms.
