Retirement Confidence Up, but Financial Literacy Lags: Nationwide

A Nationwide survey finds U.S. workers increasingly confident about retirement, with 79% reporting a positive outlook, up 14 points from 2024. While 71% feel on track with savings, financial literacy remains low: fewer than half understand compound interest, and older adults scored just 31% on a retirement quiz. Many workers, especially ages 22-34, react emotionally to market volatility, shifting to conservative assets and potentially missing growth opportunities. Nearly nine in 10 want guaranteed lifetime income, but fewer than two in five employers offer it.
