Republicans Pummel SEC’s Gary Gensler Over Crypto Crackdown
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler defended his agency’s crackdown on cryptocurrency markets, saying that he had never seen an industry so routinely break securities laws, during House Financial Services Committee hearing. The hearing was Gensler’s first appearance before the committee since Republicans took control of the House in January. In addition to crypto, Gensler fielded numerous questions about the SEC’s proposal to mandate climate change disclosures from public companies, boost regulation of private equity and hedge funds and overhaul the way stock trading works.
