OCC Says No Plans Are in the Works to Consolidate Federal Banking Regulators

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is pushing back against reports that the Trump administration will merge employees from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) into the OCC. The ongoing staff reductions occurring in various departments prompted some employees to connect them with email lists created years earlier at the OCC for transferees from the FDIC and the CFPB. “The OCC has discontinued the use of these email groups and is not preparing for the transfer of employees from the FDIC, CFPB or other agency to the OCC,” an agency spokesperson said.
