New Findings on What Current, Future Retirees Want From Advisors

A new Insured Retirement Institute report on retirement readiness found financial advisors are generally viewed as trustworthy by retirees and near-retirees. Half of the respondents said they wanted to obtain product information from an advisors, and 53% of retirees said they had an advisor compared to 46% of near-retirees. Furthermore, 58% said they wanted financial advisors to select products but explain them, rather than doing it themselves or having the advisor exercise full discretion. Respondents also favored heavy regulation of advisors overall and preferred them representing a firm with a strong brand name. Moreover, the report noted that "the preference for finding an advisor is by referral from a trusted person who has had a good experience."
