NASAA Adopts Rule on CE Credits for Investment Advisors

The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) has announced that its members have voted in favor of adopting a model rule that establishes guidelines on how to develop a continuing education program for investment advisor representatives (IARs) in their jurisdictions. Unlike other financial service professions, IARs are not subject to a continuing education requirement to maintain licenses with state regulators. The NASAA says the model rule will help its members "close this gap" by requiring IARs to take 12 hours of continuing education every year. State securities regulators can decided whether or not to adopt the rule in their own jurisdictions.
