Although premiums increased 10% in 2025, only 52% of Americans own life insurance, leaving nearly 100 million uninsured or underinsured. Misconceptions about cost are a major barrier, with 40% overestimating premiums, especially younger consumers. While many research insurance online, most still prefer human guidance when making decisions, creating opportunities for advisors. The study also found that consumers favor simple, affordable policies focused on core needs like final expenses and retirement income over complex features.
