Life Insurance Application Activity Hits an August Record

Life insurance application activity rose 18% year over year in August, the strongest growth ever recorded by the MIB Life Index during that month. Through the first eight months of 2026, applications were up 15.6% from the same period in 2025, 19.6% from 2024 and 20.6% from 2023, while August activity declined 0.6% from July. Older applicants recorded the largest increases, with applications rising 53.9% among people 70 and older and 34.4% among those 60-69. Applications increased across all face-amount categories, with particularly strong growth for some higher coverage levels. Term life applications climbed 24.7%, whole life 23.3% and universal life 8.3% year over year.
