How Citi Moved GenAI From Firm-wide Ban to Internal Roll-out

Like other major banks, Citi has taken a cautious approach to the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). When the tech was introduced, Citi began to have team discussions about "foundational things,” according to Jonathan Lofthouse, co-chief innovation officer at Citi. “We then went out to all of our businesses and started to understand the use cases.” By December 2024, the bank was ready to roll out three use cases internally to bolster coding, assist staff in finding data on corporate policies and support sell-side research teams.
