FINRA Cuts Waiting Periods for Retaking Broker Qualification Exams
by: Advisor Hub Staff
The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) will shorten waiting periods for candidates who fail broker qualification exams, effective Jan. 19. Under the revised rules, candidates must wait 15 calendar days after their first or second failed attempt, down from 30 days. After three or more failures, the waiting period will fall to 60 days from 180. The changes apply only to FINRA qualification exams, not examinations administered on behalf of other organizations, including the North American Securities Administrators Association. Waiting periods apply to the specific exam failed, meaning candidates can take other exams while waiting. For example, someone who fails the Securities Industry Essentials exam may still take the Series 7. Failed attempts more than two years old will not count toward determining the applicable waiting period.
