Fidelity Grows Active Equity SMA Lineup
by: Sabiq Shahidullah
Fidelity has expanded its separately managed account (SMA) platform with eight new strategies focused on active equity management and quantitative research. The launch includes six custom SMA strategies and two model-delivered SMA strategies designed for RIAs and broker-dealers. The new offerings combine Fidelity’s active investment capabilities with SMA benefits such as tax efficiency, customization and direct ownership. The custom strategies include large-cap core, growth and value approaches using enhanced index-style techniques or high-conviction stock selection. Fidelity said demand for SMAs is increasing as advisors and high-net-worth investors seek more personalized and tax-efficient investment solutions. The firm’s move reflects a broader industry trend toward blending active management with tax-managed strategies, as SMA assets reached $4.7 trillion in 2025, according to Cerulli Associates. Fidelity now offers 50 custom SMA strategies and expanded model-delivered options across its platforms.
