Cybersecurity, Fraud Attacks May Cause Systemic Risk in 2026

American Banker’s 2026 Predictions Report warns that cybersecurity breaches and fraud attacks pose systemic risks to the U.S. banking sector. Based on a survey of 174 banking professionals, the report found overwhelming expectations that fraud schemes will become more sophisticated and cyberattacks more frequent and severe. Nearly 90% of respondents said worsening fraud and cyber incidents will create major industrywide risks. Banks are responding with expanded prevention efforts, but regulatory changes and rising losses suggest risks may intensify.
