CFPB Director Fired by Trump

President Trump has fired Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Rohit Chopra. The CFPB was created after the 2008 financial crisis to regulate consumer finance and has long been opposed by Republicans. The Supreme Court last year rejected a challenge that could have undermined the bureau, ruling that the way it is funded does not violate the U.S. Constitution. Unlike most federal agencies, the CFPB is funded directly by the Federal Reserve and does not rely on the annual budget process in Congress.
